Emergency Medical Services

Dr Katherine Shafer leads our residents through their education in EMS during their EM training. She is not only our EMS Director but also the EMS director for San Joaquin County and serves on several local and regional EMS boards and committees.

Our residents have a longitudinal EMS experience rather than a single EMS block; spending time each year with Dr Shafer learning medical control, protocol development, EMS administration, and on EMS ride-alongs. Residents also participate in medic education and quality improvement during their EMS time.

Residents interested in additional EMS experience have the opportunity to spend more time during their elective period, serve on EMS committees and pursue additional scholarly activity in this field.
